Weird Problem (or not) I stop and car doesn't

I don't think a hose clamp will throw your balance out of whack, but just in case, you can replace both clamps (that's what I did) and put the two clamp screws opposite each other.

Looks easy! I'll try it next weekend. Thanks!

I wonder if there is something other than a hose clamp that can be used to put it back together that couldn't cause any balance problems. Hmmm. . . like an industrial strength zip tie maybe?

Any ideas?

Just saw your post above mine - you beat me to it.

One on either side huh. Damn I feel dumb for not thinking of that.

I'll guess I'll try it that way unless anyone else can further embarass me.

Well, finally lubed the slip yoke today. I didn't take apart the whole drive shaft. I just opened up the rubber boot as shown in Interceptor's pics and sprayed some white lithium grease in there out of a can. Drove it around for a few minutes. First few stops I got the hit-in-the-rear thud, but then it must have worked its way in a bit becuase it totally stopped. Amazing that this little change could make such a big difference, but it does. Very happy camper. We'll see how long it lasts.

so i greased my slip yoke about 800 miles ago with mobil 1 syn grease and now it is back to the thump when i stop, although it is alot weaker then before, and alot less frequently then before... it is still very annoying,!

is there any reason why it came back so soon?, did i do something wrong, or should i pull off half of the drive shaft and clean it before i lube it, or should i use a diffrent lube. before i just packed the dust over full of grease and let it work its way through

please give your advice

Mine's back too. Lasted about 2 1/2 weeks. Hmmm. . . any other ideas anyone?

If that didn't work, next is to drop the driveshaft and do it that that greasing it with some thick stuff.
