I wish to get some help to diagnose the problem with my explorer
Just got it for a month, 2004 base 4WD 4.0L V6
I am in Canada, so it is cold, and made it harder to identify the problem.
After driving for about 10-15 minutes, The water temperature will climb from middle toward red line, check guage light will come up for less than one minute, then gone and the temperature will also drop to normal gradually. In the meantime, under the hood, coolant spew out from the top of the tank. I do not mean shoot out, as the lid is still on. But the tank seem to be full and the tank can not hold the extra coolant. After the engine is shut off, the coolant level will be back to normal in a few minutes.
I am suspecting a gasket leak, however, there is no milky stuff in the oil, nor oil in the coolant. When the coolant tank is full, I do not see air bubbles.
Could it be the thermostat being hard to open or some air in the hose that caused this problem?
