I have a 1997 ex with the premium stock sound system (no sub) and recently the bass coming out of my stock speakers is distorted (and about a whole step flat, for you musicians out there). Has anyone else experienced this problem? It only happens on the low low notes, and it's beginning to drive me insane.

yeah, stock speakers can only handle so much bass, and for a short time,,

I was planning on upgrading to some pioneers in the near future, so i guess that works out ok.

The stock speakers have (crappy) foam surround. in my opinion foam surround speakers are junk, the reason they are junk is because the foam rots away over time and then the speaker has no suspension, so it'll rattle, and basically sound like complete crap (the cone is loose in the basket) replace the speakers and it'll fix the problem. i recently installed some JBL "power series" speakers in my '93 and they sound great. i'd recommend them.

here's a link if you're interested. (this is for 6x8's like the first gens take, i'm not sure what size speakers a '97 takes but i think its the same)

I have 2 different pioneers in my 02 sport (6x8 aswell) been very pleased with the sound on all ranges and now even better since putting and aftermarket HU in.

Trailblazer: Do your speakers happen to be these?
Pioneer Premier TS-A832P
Pioneer TS-A6882R

These are the ones I'm planning on buying, at least right now.

After a closer look the old after market set (previous owner) is clarion not pioneer. The new speakers are pioneer but I don't know the product number.

OK, thanks.
