I am curious if anyone else has heard this... I have a 98 XLT V8 and now that it is freezing I am hearing an odd sound a few mins after I start the truck. It is a 1 second low pitched electronic "squeel" coming from the guage cluster vicinity. It only does it 1 time and only every once in awhile.
Thanks-

could be your ABS going into check mod. The ABS system is locate outside on the drivesider engine compartment, that maybe what you heard.

I have heard this 3 times now. The first time I happened to be turning and figured it was a glitch in the turn signal, but it has done it twice since, and the last time I think I was in park. I have basically the same truck 98 Mounty 5.0. If we have the same sound, mine wasn't very loud, and lasted maybe a second.

I've heard what sounds to me like what you guys might be hearing. It's a high-pitched squeal that only lasts a second or two and it is coming from the direction of the fuse panel or cluster assembly. However, the only times I have ever heard my noise is when my ABS were engaging - and it has only happened twice.

I am glad someone else is hearing this also. I think I have to second your motion that it has to do with the ABS because in CT the streets are covered with snow and this is the only time I have heard it. It happened today when the ABS engaged for the first time in the ride, about 3 seconds into it at the corner of my parking lot.

Good thing I am not giving crazy advice! lol Mine does the same when the road surface is slippery. It felt like you don't have any brake when it does go into the ABS mode. My Big Mexican Woman (BMW motorcycle) does the same thing, but it sound like something is about to fall apart from the back wheel! Germany engineer... lol

THANK YOU

I have heard a noise when it gets cold and have spent hours looking for it. Now i can stop.
