Greetings all,

First great board, I picked up a 2000 Sport as a beatermobile for the winter time and to haul some stuff out. It's a different world for me as this is my first vehicle more than 3" off the ground (89 & 94 probes, 99 cougar, 00 audi s4) so I'm adjusting to the difference in driving.

ANYWAY to the point, I'm a stereo head, but as I have found with this X Sport is that there are very few options to do a stealth install. I mean steath mainly with hiding the amps...i've got a 300.4 and 500.1 from JL that I would like to use. Since there is no underseat storage in the Sport, I will probably mount and conceal these to the back seat.
I did find some neat ideas here: Explorer Install - Stealth

A box in general would be a difficulty to hide, but i need that to be portable when I'm hauling larger items. I've looked into the "stealthboxes" that go in the factory subwoofer location, but that would't suffice for my sound needs. I've got 2 polk DB subs I plan on using.

As for the front speakers, has anyone used the qlogic qforms kick pods at all?I've already put 6" midbass in the doors and have the tweets temporarily mounted up on the apillar.

as for the head unit, i've got the premium deck, i like the features for phone mute and the back controls so i ran speaker outs to my audiocontrol four.1 (line level converter/preamp output/volume/eq) I put that in the center consol and removed the volume button and put it to the left of the "tissue holder", as i have short arms am too lazy to reach for the volume knob on the dash!:)

How bout for soundproofing, what areas need it the most? i know the back hatchdoor rattles like hell for me!

Thanks

the whole rear cargo area, and the doors (but leave the plastic moisture in place)

I bet I know you! I'm from Allentown myself, my family still lives there and I visit frequently. Born and raised for 21 yrs in Allentown but I now live in WI. How is that old sh#@$thole doing? Drop me an email, maybe we know eachother, maybe not.

i go to allentown every now and then. we usually go to the lehigh valley mall and the army navy store. i used to live closer, but now i'm about 45 minutes away.

Army & Navy WAS kewl, until it went ghetto.
My brother used to work their until he got fired.
I know the whole town is sinking, fast. Not sorry I left.
It's kind of depressing when I got home to visit family, it looks worse everytime. My mom said some lady was gunned down outside of the LVM the other day.

thanks for the info on the stereo peeps!

anyway As for the Sh%^#ole of a town, it kinda grows on you...if you were able to break the chains and get away great. it's still the same, wannabe gangbangers in allentown, snobs and hicks sneering happily at each other....so the usual. I'm 25, I moved back here 3 years ago after college...I work for Gateway computers...did a ton of travelling all over the us when i started with them, but i got sick of flying an living out of hotels so i settled down here and they let me run their store (by borders) Army and Navy is still here, actually i was just there to pick up some snowboard binding and yes, they did go ghetto. Some innocent mother was shot at the mall a month a go by wannabe gangbangers (i say wannabe because real gangs from NYC and philly know better and aren't nearly as stupid) and 3 months there was a shooting as well over drugs...i get all that dirt my cousin is head of mall security there.

Anyway I haven't gotten around to taking some snaps of the X yet...although alpha...it looks just like yours minus the front hood air thingy.

you can see some other pics of me and my cars at

For mounting amps stealthly in the Explorer, you should look into mounting them flat against the outer wall inside the passenger side rear.

What I mean by that is to take off the passenger side plastic wall and there should be two mounts for the factory amps there. Just mount the amps on the metal brackets in there.

People have suggested using a small fan inside there if you have high powered amps as it might get hot inside as there are no vents to the area.

thanks, but my amps are too big, that was the first place i tried...they are just too wide, plus there are 2 of them. thanks tho

Welcome... I mounted my two amps on the back of the back seats because I wasn't about to spend the time to hide them and then find a way to keep em cool enough to run. The only bad part is when I would go to Lake Powell and sleep in it... the amps were in the way when the seats are laid down. I just got an Audi A4 and love it, though I as aiming for the S4, how do you like it?

That's exactly what I did so far, but I am going to make a moulded cover for the back seat with grates over the amps so that it will be flat when I lay it down...the height of a 2x2" piece of wood with 5/8" fiberboard on it gives me just enough clearance over the amps, enough that I can mount sometype of grate to protect the amps from being scratched up.

the s4 is a wonderful piece of machinery...the only mods i did to it is a 1bar chip and an exhaust...I usually am all over the 13 sec mark in the 0-60's...but it's always enough to make the semi-modded 5.0 guys drool. (their faces usuall say WTF is this 4 door beating the crap out of me for?) only downside, is I go thru brake pads every 6-8 months!

I'm in the same situation, I have 2 amps (Punch 60ix and an 800a2) and a 22 band EQ to mount, along with distributor blocks and a cap, and I've looked at all the usual places (under front and rear seats, behind panels), nothing, the 800a2 is WAY to big to fit in any of these places... What I'm gonna do is build a false floor in the back, incorperating the sub boxes in to the sides (it'll kinda look like this []_____[] from the back, sorry about the crude drawing). The boxes (2 DEI Comp 10's; small box subs make it easy) will be molded into the side of the truck, as will the sides of the false floor. That way I have plenty of room for all the gear, wiring, and accessories, and retain most all the cargo space, it'll only be 3-4 inches higher than the original floor, and look fairly stealth. Good luck!
