Ford Explorer 1999
This is the strangest thing ever, I have a 1999 Ford Explorer, one day I was driving to the grocery store and got out. When I came back in it wont turn over, the engine is not cranking up.

Air condition would come on, the radio, lights on dashboard everything comes up. Got it towed and changed the starter and thought it was working gone drove it again seem thing happen again then about two minutes she started, then drove cut it off then happened again.

Carried it to the mechanic to put on the computer, it said there is a problem with the anti theft problem, computer asked for orginial key. Drove it with a spare "original" key, it strated twice then when I drove it a distance cut it off wont start again. The THEFT light is blinking.

Sometimes it starts then sometime it wonts

CHecked online and did this

Looked under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. I turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button alram didnt chirp. This should have over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

WHAT IS GOING ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

THANK YOU SO MUCH,

I am a girl so i really dont know much about this, can I

1. Disconnect the PATS?
2. Can I put in a new ingition switch?
3. Can I get a New key Switch?

I am in the Bahamas we dont have a Ford Dealer here, nor do we have locksmiths...is there anyway I can by pass this Dealer thing? Please help!

There is no button to push on a factory alarm. You likely have an issue with the aftermarket alarm that's been installed on the system not playing nice with the factory system. My recommendation would be to take it to the place that alarm was installed (or one of their distributors) or another qualified alarm shop. They should be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

If there's a button under the dash, it's for an aftermarket alarm or remote starter as gijoecam said. They were available as a dealer-installed option. If you look, there's probably a little black box shoved up under the driver's side dashboard, near the steering column. And mechanic comfortable with electrical work should be able to troubleshoot it or remove it entirely. The aftermarket systems are not necessary, and can easily be removed.
