It’s the top center piece where I guess the normal Explorer has a center speaker? The piece is removable and replaceable. Are there different things that can be mounted there? Maybe something to hold a GPS or phone or something? Mine has this weird hood with a cable running through it. I’d like to remove it and replace it with a flat piece of nothing else…

Yeah, you needed to look done the list and read which part fit your scenario. Most likely this one:

That might fit, not sure though. The Taurus interceptor had a similar area but the standard speaker grille wouldn’t fit there. It would have to be specifically for the Taurus interceptor.

Do any interceptors had center channel speakers?

Not sure. That’s why I’m not sure if a speaker grille would fit the POU or not because it wouldn’t fit the Taurus because the cut out area is different

Be a super easy beginners fiberglass project. I’d slap a set of gauges, or some auxiliary switches in there, or I’d cut it back and make it a phone holder.

That would be awesome…I know nothing about fiberglass fabrication though

You could do it. It’s easy, always wear your gloves. Don’t need another “ Hootus” incident. You could send it to me and I could do it for a very nominal fee. My turn around time is absurd, but it’d look sweet😂

Actually, a phone holder would be a great project, I’d add a small duct to the AC because my phone is always on fire when it’s up on the dash.

I'm probably not understanding the situation but can't you just pull the panel, take the box off, and cover the holes, meaning the whole panel with a nice looking scrap piece of upholstery leather or fabric?
