97 XLT SOHC
I have '97 SOHC XLT and need a new alternator. I've seen several sites that list a 130 amp for $195 but they say it's for the "X" chassis. As far as I know mine is an "E" chassis. Does it make a difference or can I use this "X" alternator?

Thanks

Your's is a VIN code "E" so you have to one for a VIN code "E". The VIN code "E" is the SOHC wile the VIN code "X" is the pushrod the alternators will not work.

Thanks. I decided to go with the lifetime warranteed NAPA 130 amp. During the installation I found out what the source of most of the noise was: the idler pulley. NAPA couldn't match the pulley but they could get the bearing, which is fine by me. Should be back on the road by tomorrow afternoon.
