And, by the way, this is incredibly useful topic... especially if we keep telling where, and for how much we've got those hard-to-find parts and pieces.

One of those roll out leather things that goes inside the back hatch to cover your cargo... I had one once

I've got 3 of them. Why would you ever want them them? If they are hard to find, it's because they get thrown away.

I never had trouble finding door handles, and I wasn't aware the arm rest ever came with a plastic mount. Surely you can find those in a junkyard. I'm pretty sure 2ND Gen door handles and center consoles fit.

haha they are hard to find and everone does throw them away lol I had one I threw it away just like you said lol good one

someone recently searched Sunroof.
I can not find the decal.

I want to paint the body, but can not find stickers "Eddie Bauer"

I have and use the rear cover on our '92 almost all of the time, and found one on the local Craigslist for the '94 shortly after purchasing it. It does nothing to keep a determined thief from getting in (apparently it's not difficult to 'break' into a Gen1) but it keeps the casual thief from knowing whether or not there's anything worth the effort inside. The '92 has been broken into twice and neither time did the thief cause any damage getting in.

It's not the handle which opens the door, it's the handle which you use to close it from the inside. Big plastic part, part of the on-the-door armrest. By the way, I particularly love this door armrest, it's so conveniently located. Not much experience here, but I don't remember any other car, where door-side armrest is located so conveniently, it's always either a bit too high, or a bit too low. One of the (many) reasons I love my old X.

So, mine went broken on both doors. I tried to glue them back in place, passenger side hold (kinda), driver side didn't, and for couple of years I was closing the door using rope loop I put there. Yaky. Gotta remember that looks that valet parking guys were giving me.

It was impossible to buy replacement at that time (maybe the dealers had it -- with prohibitive cost, my memory is a bit cloudy in here). I was visiting Houston junkyards regularly for couple of years in the late 2000-th, specifically looking for them handles -- and in each and every 1st gen Explorer I saw, way more than 20 or 30, both sides handles were broken too.

Ha! You are lucky. Not the Explorer, but some idiot did broke driver door glass in my 1985 Nissan 300ZX. Not to mention there was absolutely nothing to steal, but the car was not even locked!

That really sucks.

I have had trouble finding the driver's door armrest pad for any setup, much less my 2dr with manual windows with blue interior. Finding manual windows is rare enough.. I have also struggled finding a limited front bumper cover. Grills seem to come up every so often, but not the facia.

Yeah... I was considering putting the sign "Empty and Unlocked" on it, but we had moved from there soon... into considerably better location :)

haha if I put a sign up like that in my neighborhood I would find people sleeping in my truck the next morning:whitenavajo::drunk:

Another hard-to-find (impossible to find?) part is the 3rd brake light lens.

I remembered you mentioning this while in the junkyard. I noticed at least three. I didn't look close at them, but they were all intact.

I was glad to see my truck had that part when I bought it.... it was a major plus for me- it keeps people from looking in the back of my truck and seeing those big ass speakers. also prevents items back there from reflecting and projecting onto the rear glass- less of a distraction when looking into the rear view mirror

check around in your area for a sign shop, screen printing shop, or something like that. they will be able to custom make vinyl decals for you- any size, any shape, any color- and usually at a reasonable price... vinyl decals stick almost forever and never lose their color except for the reflective colors. they may end up looking even better than the original decals.

Since then, I found one (a 3rd brake light) locally in the yard. it was off a faded red '94 4-door.

I have been working on the lens with cleaners and super-mild abrasives, and it's coming around. I am beginning to think the plastic lens can never be as clear as glass though.
