also at what point is it not good to use the bumber and therefore should use a Class 123 hitch? I plan on towing my Mustang to the drag strip on a full car trailer. I went to U haul and they have a nice tubular design that was about 160 bucks. Are there any other places or brands that you would suggest?

Hitch

Since you have a v8 you could get a cls3 hitch. a 2 would work but nothing lower. The one at U hall is nice but you can get one for 120 or so at pep boys, wal-mart. www.pepboys.com and www.carparts.com will help you. I personaly dont like using the bumper. It only has a 350lb toung limit. A trailer hitch is monted directly to the frame. Hope that helped:chug:

I use a Class III frame mounted hitch on my 99 and its a V6 SOHC.

The hitch I choose is from Hidden Hitch; I looked at a lot of them prior to making my descision.

Was a piece of cake to install and works great.

Mine is a Class III Draw Tite and I tow a 6,500 ppund boat with over 500 tongue weight and I haven't had any probs with it.

I just put a hidden hitch on my x yesterday. It looks great and only cost $113 including shipping from etrailer.com. And it only took 3 days to get here. It was the 70647 model if your interested, which I decided was the best one after doing some research. I'm very happy with it so far and it sits about as hidden as it could.

BTW, it's a class 3, and only took about a half hour to put on with my brother helping me.

I have a 97 Sport, with a Hidden Hitch Round Tube Trailer hitch, and I love it. I got it from a company on-line "Dead Link Removed"
The Current price for it is $101.63. I would assume that you would have to add shipping to that depending on where you want it shipped.

The manual says that the bumper hitch is rated as a class 2 hitch. Will tow up to 3,500 lbs. with a 350 lb. tounge weight.
