What Can I Do About Lame Rear Braking Power - Excessive Nose Dive

One of the few complaints I have about my Explorer is that the rear brakes have never seemed to do their share of the braking. I have excessive nose dive, and it only takes a week or two for my front rims to be completely blackened with brake dust. I have 4 wheel ABS (4 wheel disc brakes). I really didn't expect this from a 4 wheel disc brake system.

Is there a proportioning valve on this sytem? What options do I have to try to get the rear brakes to work harder?

There are no real options, its something you more than likely have to live with. All vehicles do 70-75% of their braking with the front brakes. This is for two reasons, first thats where most of the weight of the vehicle shifts under braking, and second this is done to help keep the vehicle stable under braking. The only thing I can suggest is to upgrade your front shocks to Edelbrock IAS's or something similar. They will help control the dive while maintaining the ride.

Also maybe you could upgrade to a different set of pads in the rear? There are some types of pads that create little or no dust and break a little bit better than the OEM pads.
