I was just wondering what I can expect to pay to have my lower control arm bushings replaced.....and have my rear end re built on a stock '96 xlt

ur asking about the bushings right (the ones that the lower arm-to-chasis bolt goes through)? not the lower ball joints?

as for the rear, why doseth it needeth to be rebuilt(eth) ?
but to give you an estimate for the rear axle, the "rebuilid" kit (bearings, seals, etc..) usually costs about a hundred.. as for the labor, thatll cost u probably another $200-$300.

Yes, I was asking about the bushings that connect the lower control arm to the frame. the reason I want them replaced is because I just replaced everything else trying to diagnose a vibration.

The rear end is leaking oil out of the front seal and has some movement when lifting up and down on the yoke..... so I figured I would just have it re-done. It has 160k on it

hey dont drive your explorer if the yoke is able to wobble around (no wonder why its leaking).

your right! that was expensive ( about $800 ) and I still have the vibration.

I have no choise but to drive it. But I do have plans on getting it done by the end of the month.

I just bought an 8.8 rebuild kit for $75 from Complete Off Road. Comes with everything you need plus new Timken bearings. That should take care of the leaking problem. Are you sure the movement is coming from the pinion flange on the axle though? You might want to also check the u-joint on the driveshaft for play. If that is bad it could give you driveline vibration. Hope that helps.

the U-joints are new. It is defenatly moving at the flange

At the very least its the pinioin bearings.. could be more.. the pinion moving around like that means that the backlash tolerances are off, which might result in gear damage (thats why I was hoping you werent driving this vehicle)...

Its my daily driver.... but I have tennative plans for getting this fixed over the memorial holiday.

Just wondering what I could expect to pay and how long it might take.

wanted to know if you got the rear end problem fixed and what it costed you. I'm having the same type of problems and would like to know what it costs to have the rear pinion bearings replaced.
