Depends where it is cracked. Most likely some not so subtle off road adventure, jumping over humps maybe. Broken motor mount?

Usually bad mounts or things like neutral dropping.

Yeah, Neutral Bombs.

What do you mean by neutral dropping?

I guess what I'm wondering is if the housing can be replaced or another tranny is needed.

What do you mean by neutral dropping?

Revving up in neutral, and dropping it into drive while still revved up to do a burn out basically.

You would have to replace the tranny. The casing of the tranny is cracked and probably pissing out fluid everywhere. Remember its always worse than what the dealer says so it probably has busted mounts and bent drive shafts too.

Neutral Dropping is reving the hell out of your engine and shifting into Drive. This flogs the hell out of an Auto tranny. It's fun to do after a few beers, a 4x4 Explorer would probably jump 5' into the air. No way I would do it to my truck, try it on a company car just before it goes to the auction house and you will see what fun has been had with that Explorer your planning to buy.:D
