I have a 91' Explorer XLT and it has given me no problems ever since I owned it. I have a question for you guys and was hoping you could point me in the right direction on how to fix it. Ok, its not major but the last couple of days it has been taking forever! to fire up. I turn the keep and it just keeps turning over for a good 10sec. before it finally fires. Any Ideas on what to look for? Is it plugs? Would fuel injector cleaner help? Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When did you change the plugs and wires fuel filter last .
Maybe check the fuel pressure.
Clean the idle air solenoid ?
Clean the mass air flow sensor .
Could be many thing but try the simple stuff first! ;)

By the way welcome to the site .
If you do a search you will find all kinds of info on all that I listed above .

I would agree, if you just got your vehicle, the previous owner may not have done any maintainance to it.

Wow thanks for the quick responses guys. This forum is great. I appreciate you giving me some good starting points. I'll see what I can do! Thanks again

Try turning the key to "On", wait till the Fuel Pump stops whining, turn off, then back to On, waiting again for the FP to stop whining, turn off, back to On, wait for whine to stop then turn to start. If it fires right up, the check valve in your fuel pump is shot, allowing the gas to flow out of the lines back into the tank.

If that doesn't help, when were the battery cables replaced? They tend to rot on the inside and are responsible for many hard start problems with first generation Ex's.

Crankshaft Position Sensor? First try disconnecting and reconnecting it. This solved my no-fireing-problem last year.
