Ok, I am looking for a decent cheap sub for around 250. I am looking at a couple and I want SPL mostly, I like SQ, but SPL is what I want. I could take one sub or a pair, depending on price. I was looking at maybe 1 solobaric S12L7, elemental design O series, adire audio shivas, Alpine Type R's, or anything you might suggest. I don't really want anything bigger than 12". As for amps, I plan on using a JBL 600.1 So any ideas or suggestions? BTW, its going to go in my Probe, not an explorer, don't know if that changes anything.

the solobarics will pound like crazy but a 12L7 with only 600w may not be as much spl as you're lookin for. In order for those to get REALLY loud, they need a TON of power. Go with the Elemental Designs 12" O series dual 4ohm... That way you'll also get some sq with your sub, something the solobarics really lack in.

Any comments on the Type R's? Theres a guy on ebay who is selling a single 12" Type R in a nice looking tube plexiglass ported enclosure and its pretty cheap. Here are some links at what I'm looking at:
Type R - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3031368955&category=32823

Kicker L7 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3031207343&category=39777

Elemental Designs - Direct

Also, how does the O series compare to the K's and A's. I know the A's are the best, but how far off are the K's or O's? Thanks!

subs

I think the apine type-r's will give you a better SQ but if you want spl for $250 go with the solorbarics.
But for the money I would definitely get the Kicker sub. My friend had 2 12" in his durango with a 1000w amp from kicker and i heard that thing from 5 or 6 cars back of me in traffic.

From my listening experience, the L7s are a little too sloppy.

There are plenty of great subs out there that will give a good mix of push and quality.. You really shouldn't have to sacrifice one for the other unless you're competing.

For overall listening enjoyment, I'd really suggest going with something like the adires, elemental designs, or fosgate.

The 12a would be a good choice if you decide to go with ED.. Dollar for dollar, that sub just owns.

I'm getting rid my 12s for a single ED 15a. I heard one in my friends hatchback that made me rethink everything bad I heard about 15s. This thing has amazing sound quality, and has enough push to make your nose bleed.
