I need to tow 5,700 lbs (boat, engine, gear, gas, trailer) with my 2002 EB X, 4.6L, 3.73, CIII/IV hitch. Total GCWR is 11,600 and tow rating is 7,000. Looks like I'll be below the "75%" rule - but am considering following mods for more power/safety:

tranny cooler
aux oil cooler
flowmaster 70
chip (apten or diablo)
gabriel gas ryder shocks
adjustable air leveling springs

also want to get FIPK but can't find one for an '02 4.6L. Any ideas?

What do you think? Too much? Too little? Or just right?

You might not need any air springs as many tandem boat trailers have little weight on the tongue. An oversize tranny cooler sounds like a good idea. What kind of boat do you have?:D

I would do the trans cooler and the chip. Those would be the two biggest improvments for that application. Have the chip optimized for towing too.

I agree with the tranny cooler. Most of your mods (I think) will give you more midrange to top end power. The stock engine prolly has enough low end torque to not worry about it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

tandem trailers still need adequate tongue weight for the stability of the trailer/car. be sure the trailer is set up appropriately for your safety and the safety of everyone else on the road.

don't forget about brakes either!

Trailer brakes or X brakes?

Trailer brakes and X brakes

If im not mistaken your 2002 4.6 has a transmission cooler already, my 4.0 does. Look under the front bumper it just be on the frame in the midddle.

What brake set up would be good for the X?

Your factory X brakes are ok. Just make sure your trailer brakes are operational. Very nice boat!

Thanks for the help RiverRat
