what does MOSFET mean?

Hey guys I have a dumb question, I see on all these amps in stores they say MOSFET on them what does this mean?

metal oxide semiconducter field-effect transistor.
Fast switching and efficient (around 70-80%) if I remember right.

Yea the term MOSFET is thrown around a lot these days. But just because an amp says its MOSFET (most do) doesnt mean they are quality. In fact some manufacturers only use MOSFET devices in the power supply but still use standard transistors in the amp circuit.
