not sure what area to put this under.

i have a 01 sport 4.0 sohc, well its kinda mine to be, its my gf's car but when she gets it paid off she is going to give it to me. how nice a free truck, but i been modifiying it lighty. my daily driver is an 07 f150 4.6 started out as a work truck, not sure if i can post this link but its on cardomain which can be seen here www.cardomain.com/id/cfm150

that was only suppose to be a slighty mod'ed truck no every thinks it a racetruck lol, it kinda does have that look. anyway i wanted to see what yall think i should do to this x sport, why i posted the link for my f150 is i dont want to go that extreme, but i do want this to look different then just a stock x. something other then clears lowered, lifted, thats about what everyone does there nothing wrong with that, i just mean just about everyone i see looks the same or stock, i wanted this one to stand out a bit.

so far exterior wise i did clears, hids, smoked rear tails, and leveled out the front a hair, put leds in tag and puddle lights.

sound i changed the rear speakers to sony 4ways, front are stock, and a pioneer raido deck.

interior i channged every bulb to leds.

performance, kinda sad, spectre Homemade CAI, ngk v-power plugs, and a accel coil. these 4.0 are pretty fast power weight ratio wise, this will almost keep up with my f150. so not really interested in making much more power unless its a mpg gain.

im looking to make this a nice everyday driver with a little class ill call it. my f150 will become my show truck and this will be my everyday driver, im not looking for something to go fast, just an all around good handling, mpg truck. not looking for a huge sound system either. i firgured i would change the front speakers out, and that would be it for sound.

performance, i had it tuned for a while and didnt see much gain form it i took it back off, only other thing i might think of would be a e fan, i found a 16" pulling 3000cfm but not sure if thats enough.

exterior maybe put a different kind of ford rims, im not a big fan of anything much over 18" at the most 20" my option it kills brakes faster and hurts mpg. i was thinking a newer explorer/ranger rim or maybe a mustang gt500 rims. its gold right now, im planning on having it painted deep black met. along with the trim, those black gt500 rims would match nicely. leaving door jams, fire wall, ect the org. gold

interior: plan on leaving it tan for the most part so it can blend with parts im leaving gold. but i might have the headliner redone in black. and the windows tinted

tell me what yall think i should do or maybe give me some ideals. or if you think i got a good plan going. thanks guys

i dont think i read any changes with your exhaust, you could do a cat back and add a nice muffler for better MPG and sound. also removing the resonator makes a difference in sounds. interior you could paint your air vents and door sills.

Sounds like a lot of money to be put in a 2001 4.0L SOHC, that might have soon issues with the timing chains.

i have done a little something to the exhaust forget to mention it, i cut three of 4 cats off, left the one at the y-pipe cat, i have a turbo SI/SO muffler with a small chrome tip, its got a good note to it, real deep dont show the v6 sound much.

the frame is in good shape all i see happening in the long run would be new suspenison and some body mount bushing, my friend has a 05 sport trac and the otherall condition of his in worse then mine, which is in my option sad. this was in a wreck at some point before i got it, and some of the parts have been replaced already, that help out. i see maybe $300 in parts for the ball joints, steering, ect, and the body mounts. about $500 for the paint and headliner. when this gets done it will be like a new car to me.

when the time comes, i think i will be swaping in a 302, i wish i could know for sure a 351 would fit, but even if it did, it might be in a roll over pretty quickly, even with the 302, i will be redoing the whole suspenison if that ever comes true, i would just switch it to a 4.6 but the 302 sounds and looks easier not sure ill find out when the time comes.

thanks guys, i forgot what a spray can do for the interior

my 2¢...

-add some sort of amplified sub in the OEM sub location. I did this in my 96. Nothing competition winning, but just a nice addition of bass. The rest of my system is stock OEM. Search "Budget Bass" on here for more info on my setup.

-add some sort of computer programmer. I scored a Hypertech programmer off eBay for cheap. Didn't make mine anything close to a hotrod, but made it more amusing to drive. I thought it was quite a downer to drive before the programmer.

that was kinda my plan with the sub, if i build anything in for comp its going to take up alot of space, meaning i have lost the true point of it being a suv to haul 4-5 people, my f150 has more bass then what i need, im like you just need some good sound, i went to the junk yard the other day and found a sport trac that had the sound package on it, and got me the front doors speakers, there a comp look set with the highs and mid sperate. got for $10 and they work ill post a pic, i would have got the sub box and amp out of it as well but couldnt think of how/where to put it. im thinking of adding a 8" in a custom box to fit inside the right/pass side storage compartment some how.

i have an open superchips flashpaq 1865 tuner that i had tuned before i didnt really see a big difference and superchips quote a hp/tq gain of 13hp/18tq or somewhere close to there. and to me it seemed to run better without the tuner not fast but an all around smoother ride not sure why.

im really know thinking of swaping in a 4.6 just get a computer and im pretty much good i think they use the same tranny not sure. but then only issue i would have i can think of is how can i get past the chip in the key, i meant putting in the new one, i would have to get the key that way programed with the computer that come with the motor, unless i just get an older 5.0 then i want have to worry with it. but with all this in the back of my mind still has a bigger problem i dont know how it will handle and drive with alot of power and a short wheel base, with me, im sure i will flip it the first week.

Old thread but I wanted to make note that the superchip 1865 tuner is not compatable with the Sport model from what they say on their forum... something to do with the computer being different from the other models.

this is an old thread and i havent done nothing to this yet its all been put on hold. however i do have an f150 that at one time i had a 1865, with that i did program this 2001 sport. i do know up to 2001 have the same motors as the older style 99 which i also had one. the same 1865 also programmed a 2005 sport trac. maybe its 2001.5-2003 this is the one built before 7/24 maybe that has something to do with it. Anyways i do know for a fact the 1865 will program a early 2001 sport.

Hey if you still want a sub box there easy to build look up stealth box on here took me couple of hours to build and get all prettied up

It looks like there is some confusion on the side of Superchips too since the company moderator is saying that the Sport Trac is not supported and some individuals are saying that technical support said that it is... however, the OHV motor is definitely not supported. The 1865 is only intended for the 4.0 SOHC motor on the Explorer/Mountaineers.
