I only want to pull this out once. What else should I have replced since the entire tranny, & trasfer case will be out of the truck, while my 5 speed manual gets rebuilt. I have a new clutch, slave cylinder, throw out bearing, master cylinder, fly wheel, rear main seal, & new seals going between the transfer case/tranny, & engine/tranny. Anything I'm missing? I will replace it, even if it's not broken, for the sake of not having to take the tranny out again. Can I replace the oil pan gasket while the tranny is out?

Bump!

I'm assuming that these use a pilot bearing, I would sure replace that while I was in there.

Also, any drive train u--joints, just because they are cheap and you're already in to that level of dissassembly.

Another preventive maintenance tip is to replace the rubber plugs in the shift rail bores with steel freeze plugs. The rubber plugs have a tendency to dry up and leak, and/or fall out. The plugs are located in the transmission top cover and face towards the rear of the truck. The part numbers for the metal plugs are: Dana #219-3052 or Dorman #555-108, you will need 3 plugs to do the job.

I got that from explorer4x4.com it would be an excellent time to put those in. When i go and do my clutch im going to install them.
