What fits?

I have a motor trans(automatic) out of a 2001 exploer truck was wrecked only five thousand klm, I want to put the motor in my 88 Ranger but want to make it standard.Other than buying trans for 2000 up year models will the five speed from an older ranger fit the 4 litre overhead cam motor? If so does anybody know what will fit in an older trans looking to save some coin. Thanks BBFord
