What is 3.75 backspacing?

Hi Guys,

I am going to get some new wheels for my 33s to be fitted onto, but over in the UK most wheels are quoted with an offset or ET rating, what is backspacing translated into UK English

Also why does no one use 10" width wheels with 33x12.50 tires?

Anyway backspacing refers to the distance from the back side of the rim to the mounting pad as seen in the following pic: I'd guess 80% or more people go with an 8" rim with 3.75 BS since it is much closer to the OEM specs and causes less fitment issues. BTW there are plenty of people (with lifted explorers) using 10" rims, but these rims and (3.75" BS) cause the tire to protrude further out from the wheel well. Therefore when making moderate to sharp turns this increased wheel protrusion will cause the tire to contact the lower rear of the fender (requiring you to trim it off). If going offroad or hitting some large bumps the increased wheel stick out can cause the tire to contact the upper fender (with a std tire/wheel combo woud tuck inside the wheel well and make no contact).
