What is going on??????MAF Sensor

Hello to all?I have a 1997 ford explorer limited AWD 5.0 motor,well I was goping to clean my mas air flow sensor and I dont have 1So I am asking if I dont a have a maf sensor then what do I have??Some help me understand please.How is the computer reading the level of air and fuel mixture if it dont have a sensor.I mean the truck runs perfect.

cylindrical housing

The MAF sensor for your vehicle is located in the cylindrical air cleaner housing. The electrical connector for it is located on the bottom of the housing. First unplug the electrical connector and then separate the MAF sensor from the housing.
