I have a 97 XLT with 111,000 miles on it. What is the common things that go wrong with a Explorer at this age and what are the weak points?
It runs great and still strong. Replaced shocks, belt, and that is about it. Seems like a great truck and I would like to drive it in to the ground, but just wondering what I have to look forward to...

Here's a short list from my 97 @ 145k:

upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, upper radiator hose x 2, radiator, wheel bearings, timing chain tensioner "issues", ring and pinion gearset, power window motor bushings, driver's side seatbelt, front brake caliper.

Could use new paint.

If your front rotors are from the factory, you'll probably need to replace them sooner or later. Also, parking brake service, which is separate from the normal rear disc brake.

Thank you Bubba. Sounds good compared to my Bronco II I owned. At least nothing that expensive...
