I have a 1993 Ford Explorer. When you go down a hill the RPM's go down like it is idling? Someone told me the transmission is getting ready to go? We just bought this and I am really worried. Also, if you drive on bad lockouts will it hurt anything or will they break? I don't want to get in an accident but they are clicking at least that is what I think is clicking? Im know it needs new u joints and how serious is this?? Thanks for all your help, I have had this for 4 weeks and have not drove it because of the noises it makes!! Any help will be appreciated!!

My Explorer had that clicking sound in the Drive trane just before my tranny gave out. usually when coasting down a hill. The last time going down a big hill it just became disengaged I rolled down the hill and up the other side. The engine would rev in drive but not move. I tried to put it in to park, but had a grinding sound. I shut the engine off, put car in to park and restarted the car it work. The problem now is that it won't shift from third to fourth. I dropped the pan and didn't find any metal parts, my next move is to change out the valve body. I've been reading this site and others for 3 weeks now. a lot of good information here but it will take some time to find it all. GOOD LUCK let me know how it comes out>

The idle dropping as you coast, especially down a hill is normal. Clicking from the autohubs is normal when they are overgreased (they shouldn't be greased) or are shot.
