What is next?

Hi all,

2002 Ford Explorer AWD 4.0


My check engine light keeps coming on. I had it checked and it was the EGR valve. Changed that last night. Now the check engine light came on again. I am guessing it will be the next item on the line of checks that the computer does. Anyone know what will be next after the EGR?

I would take it to Autozone and they can run a diagnostic check on it to narrow it down. Once you have the code that the OBD2 that they will use puts out, you will be able to go from there. Could be a bunch of different things, so having the code is a must.

yep. did that yesterday.. it showed the code for the EGR.. so I switched it. now it is on again. I will go again today after work. see what that little computer says this time. Better not be the EGR valve again.

Could be the DPFE sensor, its hoses, or the EGR vacuum regulator. They are common fail items and could possibly still cause the same code since they are egr related.

Mine was the sensor, it was about $30 aat autozone.

went back

well i went back. reread the code and it was the same code. I made a phone call and just like mentioned in this thread it was suggested that I change the DPFE sensor. I did change this out a couple years ago and it had a life time warranty so they parts guys hooked me up with a new one and reset my light. So far so good. Seems like we might have a solution. Thanks!

If it comes back on I will post back.
