I have a '97 XLT.
There is a long rectangular box with wires coming out of it, attached to the lower brace of what the stock airbox is sitting on. What is it?? I'm trying to take the airbox out ( I just put in my KKM...love it and the sound! ) and I don't know how to remove the airbox without breaking it and/or without possibly damaging this little electronic box.
What does the electronic box do and what is the easiest way to remove the lower portion of the airbox??

Thank you all in advanced..

Can't help you on the electronic box whoojimajigger, but to get your lower section out all you have to do is pull. The only thing holding it are rubber grommets securing it to the fenderwell.

Hey, I'm not sure what that electrical thing is, where do the wires go to? But I can help you with the removal of your air box. I have a '97 Sport 4.0 SOHC and once you have the top half off and unconnected to the intake feel down to the bottom of the air box it is sitting on a metal shelf support and there are rubber gromets holding the bottom of the air box down (3 gromets i think). The best way to pop off the air box is to take a screwdriver or anything else that can be used for prying (craftman screwdrives have lfetime warranty incase you bend the screwdriver) then pry the air box away from the metal shelf and the gromets will pop through, releasing the air box. I removed my airbox when I installed my FIPK II system it took about 5 minutes to get the box off. #Note, it might take some elbow grease to pop the gromets!

good luck, you should be able to get it off with little trouble.

Sean.
