While installing a ProComp add-a-leaf (harder than I expected, by the way) to my '96 XLT 4X4, I discovered a short, stubby shock absorber mounted on the right side of the differential housing, and running at a 45 degree angle up to the passenger-side frame rail. What is that?

Thanks!

I think it was put there to control vibration on the 1st Gen X's and carried over to the newer X's, I have removed mine and have had no problems, Many others here have removed there's with no problems..

It acts as a vibration dampner. You can safely remove it if you want. Most people here do.

Mine has been removed and no problems here

I'm assuming that they didn't put them on the sports? Mine doesn't have one. Of course the previous owner could've taken it off....

i noticed with higher speeds that my rear-view vibrates enough to blurr the image. I just did 3" BL and new 33s

will this increase the vibration. There is very little felt in the truck. I think it's due to U-joints and/or driveline.

Not bad enough for me to worry yet.
