What is the Max you would pay to get a Transfer Case put in?

U-joints are easy to replace. Do it yourself and save $60.00

If it is a transfer case, I have an extra one out of a 97 explorer. I think the only thing bad about it is the electronics that are attached to it, so if yours is able to switch into 4wd, then maybe you could put your electronics on it then install... Just a suggestion. If you're interested, PM me or something.

Is it true that the transfer case is not used in 2WD? Here is my problem:

While on a day trip the other day, it felt like the transmission was acting up. When I would go to accelerate (on the highway) , it would rev up like in neutral. I took my foot off the gas for a second and then it would catch. Then when we got to our destination I put it in reverse to parallel park and got nothing once again. Tried drive and still nothing. It was close enough in, so I just left it there for an hour or so. Came back and it moved just fine. But once on the highway again it would act like in neutral whenever I slowed down for traffic and tried to accelerate again. If I shut the car off though and then just started it again I could accelerate but the problem would come back when I had to go under about 55 mph or so so I'm assuming it was trying to downshift then. It finally gave out when I had to stop for gas. This time even in park did not work and the car would roll.

The shop is telling me they pulled the pan and saw no metal in the tranny. Guy says he's 90% its the transfer case. I know about nothing when it comes to this but reading different posts sounds like I might be getting ripped off here.

The T-case is used all the time...In 2wd is sends power to the rear and in 4x4 it sends power to both...Click on the link in my sig line and you can see an animated view of how the t-case works...
