What is this? Above spare tire.

I had my spare tire off tonight doing some stuff in the back, and noticed some sort of tray above where the spare was. It's almost completely rusted through, in some places I can break right through it. On top, there is some sort of control unit or something. What exactly is this?

They should be fine. Pull on the surrounding bracketry and see if anything gives.

They aren't very heavy- just canisters. The tray on my 01 is plastic. You may could get a late model tray and replace your rusted one.

yea thats normal, idiots at Ford didnt treat the metal, I upgraded to the late model plastic tray, also use the late model body nuts and bolts because yours will be rotted
