And how do I turn it off ?

Picked up our new-to-us 2007 explorer today, it's a beauty. When we got home, closed and locked it up for the night, we noticed there was a small red light, in the top and center of the dash, a couple of inches back from the windshield, that blinks every few seconds. What is it and how do we turn it off, or should we turn it off. I am new here but will try to upload a picture of the light I am talking about.

Seriously?

Refer to my post on your question about the traction control button.

A hint - no - you can't turn it off. And no - you don't want to.

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that's an alarm indicator light. It lets everyone know its locked and the security features are activated.

Looks like that's what it is, according to a google search it does a couple of things, it syncs with the chip in the key to allow the vehicle to start and senses "sunload" for the A/C system. There's a reference to it in the owners manual but that reference puts this blinking light in the instrument panel:

Thanks for all of the great replies everybody.
We picked up a nice SUV cover for it at autozone yesterday to keep the snow and frost off of it, no room in the garage. Wife ordered seat covers for it this morning.
In 1984 I bought a new F150 super cab that we still have, in 1991 we bought a new Astro van that we don't have any more. We're more excited about our "new-to-us" 11 year old explorer than we were about either of the brand new vehicles. With my wife, it's the vehicle she waited her whole life for.

Enjoy it, it's a great car.

Requires lots of love and attention but serves us very well. We got 2 of them, one for almost 10 years.
