Ok, I cannot for the life of me figure out what this hole is for. It sits between the center arm rest and the cup holders. I own a '99 Explorer XLT and the hole is just below the opening of the center console and it faces the dash. (If I could post a photo I would show it to you.)

it's for kleenex ,
i saw it in another thread, but have never seen it in action,

Thank you all for the replies. A buddy told me that it was for Kleenex and I did not believe him. I really like the mini-MagLite I saw placed there on one of the links. (This is the first vehicle that I have ever seen with a tissue dispenser option.).

Tissue dispenser. In typical Ford fashion, it only fits an odd size box that virtually no one sells anymore. (P.S. don't people read their owners manuals any more?)

Bill

BTW, in order to load your tissue dispenser (with BK napkins or whatever) you pull up on the coin holder.

P.S. don't people read their owners manuals any more?

Bill, I think that it is a general disease. Nobody tries to find stuff on their own, they just expect instant gratification/answers online. As for reading in a paper book... probably they don't even think is an option.

You may be correct, but a lot of times these old vehicles no longer have their owner's manual. I could never figure out why PO's remove them from the car. What better place for it?

Well, even if that's true (doubt it, I see manuals in junk yard vehicles all the time) there is always Google. Search "free Ford manuals" and see what you get as the first link (except the ads).
