When I started the tune up work, the hood was opened and this part was found lose underneath the hood. My friend and I didn't figure out where it came from. Any help?

I don't think that's anything you need to worry about. Looks like a cap from something that was installed.

Like what? Trying to think what was all done to it in the past. Could of been there for awhile for how dirty it is.

Could have been dropped during vehicle assembly. Might have been a cap over a port on the heater core or A/C accumulator/dryer. Hard to tell the diameter from your photo. Throw it away.

I never toss stuff like that that I find. By it's design, it is more than just a cap, but a specially manufactured product that fits something. Down the road, you might wish you had it. Especially when you find that it is an integral part of something. But, honestly, I too do not know what it is.

It looks like a cap to me. The features probably just make it fit a bunch of different things. Looks large enough that if it was needed it’s place would be obvious.

If it’s an actual part I’m sure someone will recognize it.
