Ok, so I noticed something new about my x today. Well, I always knew it was there but now I'm pretty sure it wasn't stock. Anyway, on the inside of my back window there seems to be an antenna mount, magnetic connection to an outside antenna that isn't there? It runs a coaxil type cable to the box thing pictured below which then some fatter type round cable with some type of parralell connection runs who knows where up in the front dash of the truck. I didn't take the whole thing about but didn't find the end. There is also another flat like big phone type cable with a phone type connection that ren to the front of the truck and hat the end cut off and taped up. What is all this? Is it part of a CB radio? Some type of cell phone or car phone thing?

I am looking into installing a CB in my truck. Is any of this stuff usefull to me?

Thanks guys
:)

Sorry about all the typing errors there guys :-)

on some of the newer (95+) ones they have a cell phone thing i'm not sure how it works but i think when your cell rang the radio would turn down dont quote me but thats what i think

I have a feature like that on my headunit, it's called ATT and has a seperate wire going into the head unit. You might want to see if there is a blue wire labeled ATT going into the headunit...I don't know if that's what it is, but I would say it's something to do with a cell phone, or like Raceit said, a GPS unit...

Its what was known as a "mobile phone" :) AKA an 'in-car' cell phone. The box pictured is the brain, and it would have connected to it: antenna wire, handset wire, handsfree mic, handsfree speaker, and power.

We've actually got that same box on our boat. Its outdated (analog only), but should still work if you found a handset and antenna for it. :) (and got it reprogrammed of course)

thanks :-) I gotta see where the other wire runs to.

what is the conclusion though? stock or aftermarket?

That's exactly what it is

I have a flip out mobile phone in my center console. along side of it is the CD changer...so it takes up most of my center console....I was going to have the phone taken out when I got my new CD changer...the guy that looked at it showed me that exact same coxial type wires and that unit you have pictured there....look and see if you have a small button midway along the drivers side blind spot .....there is a small button there that if you press it the sound comes out of your speakers.... I actually used the anolog mobile phone in 97 when I first got my explorer.....this is the first hands free type phone .......you can actually talk through the speaker phone and hear out of your stereo speakers.....neat...but I wish it were digital..

Specifically, that looks like a motorola cellular transceiver. The large multi-pin connector is one plug that will divide into two main cables. One being power, the other audio (hands-free mic, external speaker, etc.)
