I've got Sensa-Tracks up front and KYB GR2 in the rear. Monroe makes a replacement for the 5th shock in the rear SC2958 I believe is the part number.

I have Monroe Light Truck shocks, plus the fifth also.

Very happy with the Monroe SensaTrac's all around, plus the Monroe 5th shock.

I did have Monroe Sensatrac all around (plus the special fifth one). Rear was too "spongy" in turns, so I did replace the Sensatracs with KYB Gas-A-Just (monotubes).

Monotube shocks are better than dual tube. Bilstien are my choice. They are about $75 each for stock replacement.

CarQuest Bruiser XD front and back - Monroe fifth shock I have been very pleased with this set-up. I do a lot of hauling and towing the camper. Very nice road manners, unfortunately she's 85% pavement pounder.

I have a 2001 Merc AWD 5.0 and I put the KYB Gas-A-Just on front and rear and well......they suck up front. I can't notice anything with the rears. I was way happier with the Monroe Sensa-trac out front. I think next time i will get something different. look for shocks and customer reviews first.

That's interesting, please elaborate - I was going to replace the Sensatracs on front with Gas-A-Just, like I have done already on rear... Wanna trade? :)
The Sensatracs that I still have on front, on highway, at certain zones (ondulations) and speed, will "micro-oscillate" - I appreciate 1 inch. That is probably the "comfort zone" from their documantation, where the damping is reduced. The same was happening on rear (plus lean 1" extra in curves), but not anymore with the Gas-A-Just. At hard braking, I fell that they "dive" too much for my taste (probably the same 1"?).
They feel great the rest of the time... probably for somebody that drives less "aggresive", they are the best buy.

What is the purpose of a shock absorber? It is there to control the ossilation of the spring, dampen. A spring will ossilate (up and down) until something stops it, gravity, air or an external force. The shock changes kenitic energy to heat energy. That ossilation of the spring is changed from motion (up and down) to heat. Heat is the enemy of a shock absorber. A shock works by oil (fluid) flowing through some type of restriction. Excessive heat causes the oil in the shock to boil. Gas flow eaiser than liquid. So the shock fades or stops dampening the spring. If you drive fast on a washboard road you can really feel this. Hard driving braking, turning and accelerating can aslo cause the shock to heat up and fade.

Chose a shock that will accomidate your driving habits. Adjustable is good for some. I prefer a monotube because they perform better than dual tube. Shock fade is no fun, its like driving on ice. Shocks like everthing else you get what you pay for.
