what kind of t-case from a Ranger has a 2wd setting?

im lookin to get the case from an '02 Ranger (if i can ever find one!) so i can get rid of my stupid auto 4wd and simply have 2wd, 4H, 4L cause sometimes when i dont like to have it in Auto 4wd my front diff engages when i dont want it to.

Put a switch on the brown wire that is under the carpet under your drivers seat.

Just switch over to a BW model 1354 manual shift. Wiring up an electric 1354 on a second gen would be a big PITA. The only concern is that you will need to cap off the spot on the t-case where the speedo sensor connects to it.

If you do not wanna go that route, a much easier way is the way that 98FordX24 described. I have done it and have no problems.

It takes 5 minutes and works great! you even get 2 lo out of it!

and you still have the option of auto 4x4 if you want it.

Seriously it is worth the 5 minutes to do. I never thought I would say I was glad to have 2 wheel drive.

Taxxman... does it say how to do it using the wire under the seat in that thread? I know it was about cutting that yellow wire in back of the 4wd switch or something but that messes with the computer. Cutting the brown wire under the seat doesnt.

Yes the brown wire works perfectly. I followed that thread for a while till someone tried that without any problems.

Some cut it underneath, but I found that it comes up under the seat and then under the carpet to the channel between the seat and the door. it is the 14 gauge or so brown wire from the t-case (or to the t-case) I just put a switch in-line and no problems what so ever. I did it Friday and went wheeling saturday. Ran most of the day in 2 low and then I could switch to 4 low in and out (from 2 lo) on the fly! it wokrs great!

I have a 1996 that has 2wd/4auto/4-low.
Is there any way I can have 2low? I read most ofthe other thread and it seemed it was all 1997+.
I don't like all the binding I get in 4low when I have too much traction. I have l/s in the back so 2low would be sufficient for a lot of "play" wheeling Or if I needed low on pavement.

ok yeah i think ill try that tommorow. can someone tell me real fast as to what position the swith has to be in for it to be stock and what it has to be in to be in 2wd.

Are you talking about the switch on the brown wire?

If so, when my switch is off, its 2wd and when its on its like stock.

thanks, yeah thats what i meant, i just couldnt put it down ok and one more little thing- you guys cut the wire and ran it through a switch right. and theres only ONE brown wire in that whole mess of about 50 wires?

Lizardtrac did mine for me. From what I saw, there was only one brown wire in the harness that was under the seat. He didnt do it from the channel. He also used a relay an not just a switch in the line.
