what length rock slider

I have seen some that appear to look a inch or two shorter than the wheel wells and some that look to be built flush with the wheel wells. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

I am welding up a set right now and i made them 5' even on my first gen sport. It leaves 4 inches of clearence from the tires so if they get hit hard they dont make it to the tire
