What Number Air Filter?????

I have a 2002 Sport Trac with 25,000 miles. The owners manual says to use the the Motorcraft FA-1658 air filter. When I pulled the air filter out of the intake box it had a different number, FA-1744. I called the dealership and they told me that mid-year through the 2003 Sport-Tracs, they had a different filter box put on the vehicles, thus a new part number for the air filter. I have tried to cross the FA-1744 to every filter manufacturer I can think of and can't find a cross. I wound up buying one from the dealer at $22. Has anyone else run ino this problem?? -Joe
