Hey Guys!

For you guys with on board air compressors, what make and model are you using? Happy with it? Wish you had a little more? Ballpark of what you paid?

I am looking at Viair 280Cs and Thomas 315 (cdc565/12)s, but want to get some other impressions or other makes.

Thanks!

I run a homade "powertank" and I love it. If you make it yourself it would be about $125. Dont know if you considered CO2.

I have heard of Viair but not Thomas. I know a few people that have a Quick Air but I really cant comment on the compressors since I dont use them.

my jeep buddy has the Viair. we both use it to air back up, and it works great. i dont know what the duty cycle is, but its gotta be really long. seems to air up a 35" pretty quick too.

I will be using the Thomas BA3624-4209-7

yep, I will have a humvee/H2 part in my truck, might install it this weekend:D

I've got a used ARB that I use in my TJ. Works great for tires less than 33's. I'm running 31's and it takes me about 2.5 min per tire to air up from 15 to 28. Duty cycle on the ARB is 45 min, plenty of time to air up a few vehicles. Nice and compact and very durable.

What about tanks

Im thinking of running either the ARB, or the Viair 200 hardmount and plumbing it to a tank(s) with a capacity of maybe 6-8 gal to run my new front ARB, and for reinflating tires. I figure with the tanks I could air up the tanks with my home compressor and then when on the trail the on-board compressor wouldnt have to work as hard or at least for as long.

The thomas is pretty expensive if I remember correctly vs the Viair, and I thought they had similar ratings. You have links robb for the Thomas- I know Grainger has them.

yeah, the thomas I have runs $500, nice to know people huh?:p I want to build my front bumper to incorparate an air tank, was planning on running a line out to the grill, with quick connect, and one out to the bed, where I would have a portable tank, might even use a few old propane tanks, just need to bleed them.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Yea, I found that Thomas compressors were in the ballpark of twice as much as Viairs for the same compacities. The Thomas that I was looking at was on eBay and was a nice deal, but about half the capacity of what I was looking for. EBay is crawling with Viair 450Cs right now (thanks to the air-riders) for about $200-$215. From my reading, they seem like great pumps and hard to beat the price. You can even get them in bling-bling chrome. :D

For tanks, I bought a portable home compressor from Michael (donkey boy) that has twin 2 gallon tubes on it. I am going to use that 110v compressor on a bigger tank here at the house, and use the tubes in the truck. 2 gallon tubes should hide them selves nicely.
