i want a flowmaster 40 non-delta flow. i have the stock system that i plan to hack pre muffler and just weld new one up to it and then run 2.5 out to behind rear wheel. what i am asking is what size do i need? offset centered? inlet size outlet? length of muffler? there is a local shop that wont sell me a 40 but will sell the 50 so i am thinking bring in my own 40 and see if theyll do it if not, i will just go to another local place like midas or mom&pops muffler shop. money talks. trust me i have heard it :smoke:

why dont you just climb under the truck and measure the pipe sizes going into the muffler (i think its 2.25" going in, but dont quote me on that)? and if you want to run 2.5 pipes after the muffler, then youre outlet size would be 2.5". as far as center or offset goes, it probably doesnt make too much of a difference if youre going ot have custom pipes run. and if you go to www.flowmastermufflers.com you can download the PDF file that basically gives all info about almost every muffler they make.

no problem. ive been racking my brain trying to figure out which exhaust i was gonna go with for about the last month. i ended up going with a dynomax (flowmaster is really a b*tch to deal with) and custom 2.5" pipes.

I have a 50 series and Flowmaster was very helpful in giving me the info I need. They told me the dimensions and even where I could go buy one locally. If you try calling them they will tell you what you might be looking for. The inlet on mine was stock size, but the outlet was bigger. I simply ran the bigger piping all the way out from the muffler to the chrome tail pipe. Hope any of this helps ya.

If memory serves me, it is 2 1/4". The Flowmaster I purchased was a dual 2 1/4" in and a single 2 1/2" out.

how does your Flowmaster sound. I was going to buy one at ProMax and they told me that it resonates way too much in the cabin of the Sports? Would you do it again, if you had the chance?

I have been looking high and low for an exhuast system for my 99 Sport. Did you notice any gains?

First, let me say I screwed up because according to my purchasing invoice from the performance shop I got the Flowmaster from, it says it is a 2.25" in and a 3" out. The part number is 524553 and it is a 50 series.

Second, I have removed the stock resonator so, yes, there is a resonating in the cab...but it doesn't bother me. At crusing speeds you don't even notice it. Off the line or when you hammer it you can tell it isn't stock. You have to keep in mind what I had to drill into my own head, it is only a 6cyl. My only other choice was a Borla system, but I didn't want to spend all that money if it didn't sound good. As far as performance gains, I couldn't tell you exactly. Sometimes it feels like a turbo kickin in, the truck just takes off. I don't remember if it did that prior to the Flowmaster. Personally, I think the truck itself is pretty quick. I've raced (on the road stop light racing, not track racing) all kinds of trucks/SUVs from Blazers, Dakotas, Durangos, all the japs and I beat them all. I almost beat a Navigator, but he had me top end. Well, I went from informing you to blabbin so I guess I'm done here. If you have any other questions let me know.

Just to let you know...When I called Flowmaster they were very helpful also.
I got a 70 series cause I didnt want any drone. There is still some at low speeds but adove 50 you cant hear the muffler. Sounds really good at idel and starting out...not too loud , just a good rumble.
Guys at the muffler shop said the larger the tail pipe the more sound there would be inside & out.

I ran 2.5" from the muffler to a 3" chrome tip. I was told the same that the bigger the piping the louder the resonating. The people from Flowmaster recommended that I don't go any bigger than the 2.5" piping. They said the in cab resonation would be too loud. I was also told that dualing it out intensified the resonation.
