what size tire can i run with out a lift to make it a lil higher

i have a 96 explorer sport, wanting to go a lil higher what is the tire size i can use to make it higher, i have on it now 255/70/16, im new to an explorer. i also want to raise it later but not to high just a lil how much does lifting it cost and what all do i need to get.

The suspension on these vehicles vary greatly. I've successfully ran 30x.9.50x15 and 31x10.50x15 on the stock wheels with no modifications whatsoever on two different Explorers, but my last one had to have the torsion bars adjusted slightly and a small portion of the bumper valance as well as a small portion of the inner fender trimmed to clear 31x10.50x15s on aftermarket 8" wheels.

31x10.5x15's on my truck, just some torsion twist , and shackles,,
but it could be done so easy even without the shackles

as i said i was new so im gonna ask what is torsion twist , and shackles,

a torsion twist is just tightening the bolts that tighten the torsion bars , and shackles is the rear spring back mounting points they are shackles that many people use longer ones,, usually made by Warrior products,
there are many threads on here about doing the TT and shackles,,
tt is free , shackles are not very expensive, than 31 inch tires have a bunch more clearance,, and look great ,

I have recap 31's measureing 32 inches tall on my explorer with shackles and tt and bumper moved forward 1 inch. they clear with approx 1.25 inchs so offroading is a no no until I get my body lift installed next month

I also have a 96 expo sport and I wanna put super swampers on wats the biggest size i could put on, right now its my tire size is 255/70/ 16, I went to this one place and they told me with a 2" by lift i could fit 35...oh and wats the max width i could do, I dont mind cutting out some fender
