Ok well my kids finally blew the stock sub in my 97 EB. Like to replace it but is it easier to just replace the entire assembly with a new or used one or can I just pick up a new sub and relace it in the box? If I can replace it what size and can I make it any bigger. Any suggestions on make, lets keep it reasonable. Just a family truckster here, don't need to shake the neighboorhood. Thanks all

Well, it always easier to replace what was there with the same thing..... since it would then just bolt right in.....plug right in and turn on the music....

But if you so choose to replace it with an aftermarket sub, JL, MTX, and Q-logic all make replacement boxes for the stock sub area.... then you would have to buy a sub to put in the box.....and an amp to power it....

Those are your "options" now its up to you...I figure let you make that choice then you can start asking about particulars about a new sub and amp....

So it might be easier to just find a replacment unit. Actually how hard is it to swap woofer itself inside the stock enclosure? If I can get it open it shouldn't be too tough right and a lot more cost effective. Is this possible? What size would I need if its possible? Thanks for the quick response Ink

You probably can replace just the sub, however if you put an aftermarket sub in there it won't have enough air space and it will be severely underpowered.

If you don't want to get into a the undertaking of a new enclosure and ampliphier and sub then I suggest changing the factory one with factory. Or you could get this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38647&item=2443269554

it already has an amp, but then you would still need a high to low-level converter to convert fronm the factory wiring to RCA plugs for this box. Those aren't that expensive and it won't give you the best sound from this enclosure but it will be much better than the factory.

or if you decide to get into it, I have a stelthbox with a 10" sub in it I could sell for cheap, but it has no cover and is a tight fit (requires some trimming to make it fit) and you would still need to wire up and amp.

just telling you your options I don't know what kind of end reslut you want to accomplish, but I am sure finding the sub straight from the factory won't be cheap, may try junkl yards?
