I'm looking at a 1995 explorer 4.0 XL with auto tranny/tcase. It has a 2hi/4hi/4lo selector on it. Does anyone know what trasfer case it would have in it? I see two different electronic x-fer cases listed and dont know wich one it would be or what the differences are.

Thanks

You have a BW4405. Ford lists different part numbers with every small modification they make to a part. Chances are, either tcase listed for your year will work. Especially if you swap out the shift motor.

So there's no way to keep a '95 in 4WD at all times?

That's ghey. :D

What x-fer case is the BW1354? Also what other years had the same one in the 95 X?

Are there any downsides to this xfer case? Is this the one for the brown wire mod?

I'm not going to be hardcore riding....just daily commute and winter ice/snowy stuff.

Edit: what years directly swap in its place? Is there such a thing as another electrically controlled model without the auto feature?

ummm you dont have 4hi, thats about the only downside, for what you described it will be just fine.

this is not the case for the brown wire mod..thats for the 97-01 tcases

So I never have 4-HI......is that what the control track is all about, it just distributes power to slipping/stuck wheels in 4 auto? Do I have true 2-hi then?

What year xfer cases swap out

yep you got the jist of control track when in 4auto when teh rear tires spin it shifts power to the front until all is good again, and yes you have a true 2wd.....if you want a true 4hi most peopl swap to a bw1354 manual, thats the only swap i have heard of

Will any 4405 work on it. Or will only 95/96 ones work. Can I use a latter model of it and still work with the GEM?

Thanks

if you use a later model i think you will have to get a gem from that year...i really have no clue, i dont think anyone has ever tried it. most peopl just go for the 1354 becuase it is not an electronic tcase, pull a lever and you have 4wd, much more reliable
