Hi guys I am in the market for some new tires for my explorer. Its my winter vehicle and I dont do any off roading wall maybe a bumpy unpaved driveway here an there but that dont count. I like the tires I have now 35 9.5 15 they are big and manly argh argh argh. But to replace them its big $ over 400 beans. I need a progressive tread with the wonderful northeast winters. God bless the snow belt. any recomendations? Btw Im on a real tight budgett the damn woman left and robbed me blind.

Too cheap and it won't do the job

I put the BFG Land Terain's that wallmart has on sale. They have good traction on and off road in sand but not so good in mud as the tread does plug easily. I went with the 235, 75 15s on stock rims but wish I would have gone with the 225s as they were cheaper and I'm thinking the narrower tire would have probably given better gas milage. I believe the set was about $400 out the door with lifetime flat and balance.

You might check the price on some General AP's. Also Wal-Mart has an off brand All-Terain in the 30X9.50X15 for aruond $70.00 a tire with a 40,000 tread life. I can't remember the name of the tire for sure but I think they are called Liberator.

Michelin CrossTerrains have good tread life, you can check those out too. I love mine. I think the 31's were 120 a piece, fairly expensive but should last a long time.

ER here is a pic of the Liberator tire. I was at Wal-Mart today so while i was there i thought i would verify the price i posted earlier today. The 30X9.50X15's are $70.96 ea. Mounting is included. The protection plan is $9.76 a tire this includes flat repair, lifetime ballance, lifetime rotation, valve stem and road hazard warranty. I hopes this helps with your tire delima. :)
