I am very curious about the real world performance, eg, 1/4 mile time/speed and 0-60 time, of some of the modified Explorers.

Please post what your truck will do....

0-60 by next Wednesday...

I have no idea - but would be interested to see what some real times are.

Jon

Were all from FL, let's take it to the track. See post on Immokalee Regional Raceway

Once again I'll have to push the search function. I typed in 0-60 time and withen 2 pages there's the threads with all you answers. Please give the search function a try next time. Thank You.

Why thank you for pointing this out. Maybe I did use the infamous SEARCH and found only a few posted tijes and I would like to see more.

I am very curious what others have done to their trucks to make em go fast. Some are into dirt, others into sound, maybe some of us are interested in speed.

I only would like to see more data.

Thanks...

using a g-tech meter,

my truck registered a 5.7 0-60mph.

Al, why don't you get together with us at the next Florida meet? We can then put alot of these questions to rest...

I did the 1/4 mile.... I got 1/8 through in 2 hours 32 minutes.... then ran outta gas... had to be towed the last 1/8 mile. But I fell asleep waiting for the tow truck and lost track of my time.

I recorded this timeslip 3/00 when my Explorer was completely stock with about 50K miles on it. The other times from Kerry were from his '98 4x4 V8 XLT with 255 70R16 tires and 4.10 LS. His had less than 20K miles on it. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to get back to the track with my mods like I had hoped and it is getting hot here fast.

My stock '97 Mountaineer V8 ran a 16.4 at 81 MPH in October of 2000 when I had 59K miles running on Goodyear Wranger AT/S 235/75R15 tires. Definitely not the best drag racing tires, and this was my first time to run a vehicle at the track.

What tires would you prefer?

Well, they are great All-Terrain Tires, as I do enjoy taking it onto trails at the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge. However, for dragracing, they just like to sit & spin, and they are heavy. I'm planning on using my roommate's 27" street tires for his '67 EFI Mustang since he runs on dragslicks at the track anyway. I don't remember what they are, but they are smaller, wider, and lighter since they are on Weld Racing wheels. I think that two of his tires & rims weigh just a little bit more than one of my Aluminum Alloy Wheels and 29" AT/S's.

altitude

I was just wondering what some of you guys are at altitude wise, I mean there are great differences in times with the verying heights @ just over 3500 ft, my explorer ran a 18.93 in the quarter bone stock with a fresh tuneup and the 235's, after running it last week I got laughed off the track when I ran a brisk 26.84. I ran it last summer in texas(lubbock) and by Gtech standards it ran a 18.20 in the 1/4 with the 31's. So, which I am sure that you are aware of, altitude makes a great deal of difference!!
PS the first 2 times were at a track so I am sure of their accuracy, the G-tech still is questionable on complete accuracy.
These poor lil 4.0's were not meant to be quick by any means, lol. Oh well just keep saving for the SWAP!!!

The track here in Phoenix is about 1200'. Yes, altitude does have a toll on ETs. For every 1000' you go up, you loose 3% horsepower. So at 3500' your 160 HP engine would be putting out about 143.8 HP at the flywheel.

Regarding the G-Tech, mine was off by .7-.9 seconds (read quicker) than my measured ETs here in Phoenix. On my quickest run of 16.373 seconds, my G-Tech showed my ETs in the mid 15 second range. I used my G-Tech on 3 out of the 5 runs I made (the other 2 I couldn't get it set before the lights started counting down). My 3 G-Tech runs were within .2 seconds of each other, however they all read significantly quicker than what my official track time was.

By the way, I have the 205 HP SOHC engine so I am already starting with an advantage.

Ok I will give you the low down on my times. With my stock motor and a powerdyne blower I went 14.45 @ 95 mph at sea level. It was fun for a while but I then put my new motor in and right out of the box with no timing in it , five pounds of boost, and no tuning I took it to the track and went 13.30 @ 100. Since then I have tuned the car, added 10 psi of boost, added a lot of timing, and some magical juice"NOS". Right now it should go high 11's @ around 116. Every time I want to take it to the track something happens. I tried to have my coming out party at Spring Break Shoot Out in Bradenton, Fl but when I got to the track my alternator broke and could not run. Then when I got that fixed my rear end broke. As soon as I can I will post my new times but it is hard because the local Track is 2 hours from my house and I work two jobs to support my speed addiction.
