What would happen if I hooked up my speaker wires wrong?

What would happen if I hooked up the + and - wires backwards on my two rear speakers?

Would it just not play?
Mess them up?

I think I did it all correct and have the positive and negitive going correctly, but if I didn't would anything happen to the speakers?

It will play but you will not get the best sound quality.

Okay... they seem to be sounding okay, but then again I am just starting off with all this audio stuff.

I just installed 2 pioneer 6" x 8" 3 ways in back seat area. The left side colors were red and red/orange and the right were grey and grey/black.

Which would be the + and - on that?

Also what would be the + and - connectors on the speakers?
There was two different size connectors on the speakers. Is the larger one the positive and the smaller the negative?

All that would happen is that the speakers would be out of phase with each other in other words as your front speakers move out the rears would move in. This would result in a lack of bass. You can check it out by moving the fader to front only/rear only and if the bass significantly increases then you probably have one set the wrong way round. No damage will occur though.

the larger lucar connections on the speakers are for POS
while the smaller ones are negative

I cant remember because I just replaced all my speaker wiring with 14 guage, but in my 95 the one with the stripe is positive--I think!!
