I have a '94 Explorer that is "lightly" wrecked but runs and drives so when I saw a '91 on eBay that needs head gaskets and is high miles for $200 I bought it thinking I could swap engines easily. But last night I stopped and looked at another '91 for sale...noticed that the EGR valve setup is different. Will the engines interchange if I switch the EGR/plenum/upper intake/etc. or are there other differences I'll run into.

The one I looked at yesterday loses oil pressure when hot. I'm thinking about just fixing the head gaskets on the one I bought and then seeing if this other one is around and I'll put my spare engine in it.

Thanks,

Derek

91-94 engines are internally basically the same..

91-92 use a 90tm head
93-94 use the 93tm head.. different casting, but all is the same (I'm actually going to be running a 90tm and a 93tm on the same engine)

EGR systems changed over the years so you would need to move the EGR component systems around between years.. Also, 94 (not sure about 93) has a cam sensor so that would have to be moved.

Otherwise, swap away...
