Hi, new to explorers. Son has a 98 explorer, 6 cylinder. Ive noticed at the junk yard there are 2 types of engines. Im trying to find the heater valve. There is one type with 4 hoses going to the valve close to the pass side firewall. His does not have this, all i see are 2 hoses going from the firewall and snaking around the engine. Is there a heater valve on this engine and what type is this. New to fords, thank you

To answer your question

98 explorer can have a 5.0 liter OHV ( Over Head Valve) v8, 4.0 liter OHV V6 , or, 4.0 liter SOHC ( Single Over Head Cam) V6 engine.

Thank you. He has no heat at all so i do not think it is a blend door issue. That's why i was thinking it is heater valve issue. Is there a picture of the different engines so i can tell if he has a OHV or SOHV? thanks again

That doesn't mean it's not the problem. I recently had a '97 sport that had no heat at all, and a bad blend door. If it happens to break/get stuck in the full cold position, then you'll have no heat.

Supposedly, not all 2nd gens had heater valves, at least that's what I read. It certainly could have been removed by a previous owner. All it really does is slightly improve the performance of the AC, by preventing hot coolant from going through the heater core, when the a/c is on.
