Whats needed?

I put this in the audio forum because audio and video usually run together. Anyway i was thinkin about putting a laptop screen in my car, i could buy a 10" for around $100, but i would need to buy the extra parts and i have an old laptop laying around thats 12" and was thinking about putting both in my car. My question is if anyone knew what else is needed to run a laptop screenin my car as in what parts i need to buy. Like wires, converters etc...

I would think that as long as the screen would plug in to your Monitor output all you would need is a 12v converter.

You will need to get a video card with a "tv out" function. Most people think that this tv out function is an S-video out put very few truely are, and For the most part, it is a DIN cable that can connect to multiple types of converter cables. You can get a DIN to RCA converter cable for about $2 at any computer store and make your "S-video" TV-out card talk to RCA. It's pretty simple. Radeon's work like this as well.

you do know, im not talkin about the whole laptop, just take the laptop screen out of the laptop and use the screen just like someone would put a screen in a visor, except its way too large to fit in the visor of course... i just said this because by the way you are talkin about it, it sounds like you think im gonna hook up the laptop in my car and use the whole laptop in my car

OOOOOhhhhh ok, I thought you were talking about putting a whole laptop in your car(thats what I'm currently doing). If you just got the screen, just make sure it can run off rcas so that it can plug into the brain on your hu.

you are going to remove the laptops screen from the computer and use that? i dont think that will work becuase computer screens and tvs are totally different in resolution and displaying of frame speeds....

I think it would be a real PITA! Most laptop screens are connected using a plug with multiple pins. I would think you would have to have some schematics from the manufacturer to understand which pin is what. It definately isn't a plug-n-play operation.

well, from what i have understood, alot of people have used laptop screens... and there is either a convertor or there is just a few wires that are needed to be spliced for instance
