What's new in 2018 Explorers?

2018 will not be an all new, as stated, it will be MY2020 out in 2019.
Correct. The dealership that i lease from since 1998 has priority buying being that it's one large dealer and when they give me info they are always 100%, And having blwnsomke in this forum is a plus...

I wouldn't be interested in a full EV Explorer, but I would go for a plugin hybrid. Our other vehicles are an Escape Hybrid and Fusion Energi so we are no strangers to EVs.

Sign me up for a plug in explorer. I'm a bit of an mpg nerd but my wife really liked the Ex so I caved. She drives 60 miles a day for work. Not so bad at $2.5 a gallon but I'm not counting on that sticking around.

I know what you mean. This is my first V6 and I'm definitely not used to this. lol

The Explorer is definitely due for an overhaul. More space is needed in the cargo area. I can't even get golf clubs in cross-wise. they have to go in on an angle. Pretty porr for this size vehicle.

I suspect 2020 or 19 will be the explorer redesign off the newly ranger/bronco something. might be interesting.

The refresh will be shown in NY for 2018MY.

It was supposed to be shown in Chicago but with the major F up on the Expedition reveal they decided to hold off on showing the Explorer.

How did they screw up the Expedition reveal?

Also, they are doing another Explorer refresh?

Yes, another mid cycle refresh. The whole Expedition reveal had issues from the get go. Powerpoint/slide show delays, freezes, equipment issues. It was far from flawless so was told they decided to hold off so they wouldn't take away from the Expedition.

It is a 2018MY refresh due out this summer.

My lease expiration is on course for the redesign.;)

I am all set with 1st year models. Love my Ex and after all the TSBs, it has been a great vehicle and has never let us down mechanically with 108k now but don't want to go through that again.

I love the edge sport and that will be my next Ford for my Wife.

Same here. My next Explorer will be a MY2021 most likely, even a MY2022 because I do not want to go through the 20+ dealership visits like I did before. I might consider a Bronco because that will most likely be body on frame. It's kind of strange, the Explorer was actually a brother to the Ranger, using the same chassis while the Bronco was on the F-150 chassis. Now the Bronco will use the Ranger chassis and the Explorer is using a car body. Funny how model names move around and shift their roles. I might consider a Bronco if it's composed in the city and has the same luxuries as an Explorer.

Any chance they'll pair an EcoBoost with a hybrid drivetrain for the redesign? Or will they continue to stick with Atkinson cycle engines? Assuming of course they offer a hybrid at all...

The 5th gen Explorer is/was based on the Ford Taurus chassis

That's 4+ months later than the 2017 as far a start up production goes. Good for me. Mine won't be an 'old' model until the 2018 hits the road likely sometime around Christmas. :D

I'm in the market for an Explorer. I like the Sport, but the options package for 2017MY excludes a few of the higher-end features like lane assist and auto-sensing wipers. I've read that the 2018MY has a "Safe and Smart Package", available for all trim models, but it's not clear whether the Sport version will include those features which are excluded on 2017 and prior model year (namely Lane Assist and auto-sensing wipers).

Anyone have a confirmed source for the available features for 2018MY Sport?
