ok so ive put on a K&N intake, flowmaster exhaust, and just got an apten chip. i have been toying with the idea of getting a new throttle body or and new MAS. has anyone put them on there X's if so waz there a noticeable power difference or am i going to waste my money.

I have a PRO-M MAS on my 2000 SOHC and I did notice a diferance.
Nothing earth shaking mind you. Not a trememndous amount at all, but noticable none the less.

The TB (only available for OHV) gives a nice gain. The MAF gives slight more response but definitely not worth the price.

I'm assuming you have the SOHC engine. If so, there are no aftermarket throttle bodies out there. Only for the OHV. I toyed with the idea of an aftermarket MAF for my SOHC, but it seems like an expensive bit of overkill. If money is no object, go nuts.

I've had more than one person (capable tuners no less) tell me that the Ford MAF is actually a better product than Granatelli or Pro-M. I finally came to the conclusion that although it might be interesting to try out another MAF, it's an expensive upgrade with marginal performance gains.

Sounds to me like you've already done the best upgrades for the buck.

i also concur with the idea that unless you plan on dumping some serious money into upgrading the engine like forced induction, there isnt much more you are really going t obe able to do to it... the maf may halp a little bit and improve throttle response... but for what a maf costs! for me, i would just know that i could find a better way to spend $300

Enjoy your ride. I have a similar setup and am pleased with the performance gains of the mods. If $$$ is tight, you've answered your questions. The cheapest I found a Pro-M MAF was $220+ shipping. If it was about $100 less, I may have gone down that road.

A great flasher or chip tuner can work wonders with an aftermarket MAF.
The OEM ford MAF is great, but it's size is a limitation in getting more ponys out of what we have to work with

No pulleys for the SOHC at this time, maybe now the the new stangs are using the same engine things will change, is all market driven

Actually aftermarket mass airflow sensors reduce engine load and improve efficiency. This occurs by providing quicker and more accurate calibration to changes in engine intake airflow, fuel and spark timing. They do increase flow.

I have the Granatelli MAF on my SOHC and could definately feel some power increase, though this "feel" is subjective. The main reason I went for the aftermarket MAF was the increase in mileage.

I am happy with mine.

Remember, many neysayers do not have aftermarket MAF and have never tested them.

Actually, the two individuals that told me not to bother with a new MAF both are quite familiar with Granatelli and Pro-M, tested them, tuned them, whatever. They both told me not to spend the money because the OEM MAF on my Ex is more than adequate. Hey, if it works for you (and Monmix and Spindlecone), more power (so to speak), to you. I'm not convinced it's a worthwhile upgrade. I'd really need to do a "before and after" analysis myself to be convinced, but can't justify the expense to do so.

I do watch eBay for used ones all the time. That's about the only way I could justify the expenditure.

Have you looked at the stock as well as aftermarket MAF's? It is visually apparant that there is less restriction to the air flow in the aftermarket ones.

All the talk of can't justify the added expense is further with Granatelli. Those puppies are pricey. Does the inside of the Pro-M look the same?

Maybe some day if I stumble across a used one, I'll give it a go. I was real close to ordering one from a shop up here. As you recall, I touched base with you about them a while ago. I just couldn't justify the expense. Even the place I was ordering from (they're quite knowledgeable) questioned my reasons for doing so. They would have gladly taken the $350 CAD from my wallet to special order, but wondered why I wanted to. I told them I'll hold off on a special order until I get that imaginary $25K raise my CEO promised me in the new year.
